Wat-er They Thinking?
Water may be the easiest, yet most overlooked weight loss tool. While everyone knows drinking water is essential for survival, what they don’t know is only slightly less important is consistently drinking the right amount of water.
Water is essential to our wellness and to our weight loss success. Did you know water consumption can even affect our metabolic rates? (It’s because when we don’t drink enough water our livers have to work overtime to help compensate for our water-deprived kidneys.) Another responsibility of our livers is the breakdown of stored fat into energy. This can’t occur nearly as quickly when our livers have to pick up the slack for our kidneys. Our poor livers are working so hard they don’t have time to attack the stored fats in our bodies!
Water has lots of other benefits, too! Not only does it help increase our metabolic rates, it also cleanses the cells in our skin, eliminates blemishes in our complexion, reduces cellulite (which is mostly stored-up water), and even improves muscle tone. So go ahead… pour yourself a glass, plus seven or eight more each day!
CP Bonus Tip – It’s easy to forget to drink water so I prefer to carry around a gallon of water to keep me accountable to my hydration. But carrying a quart or the smaller 16oz bottles is fine! To stay hydrated, I like to use the 10-gulp rule: When the water touches my lips, I gotta take 10 gulps before I put it down. It is surprising at how quickly it fills you up! It works like a charm, and I can polish off my gallon EVERY day

Chris, with all the controversy about the possible dangers of drinking water that’s been stored in certain kinds of plastic, what do you use and/or what do you recommend to carry around water in to make sure we get in that all important gallon and get it in safely?
Thanks!
KICKOFF IS ONE MONTH FROM TODAY!!!!

Hey Chris,
I’ve noticed you and David suggest drinking a gallon of water daily. I’ve always heard that we’re suppose to drink half our body weight in ounces…even from “fitness people”. Does it differ depending on the size of a persons height, weight, etc?
Hope all is going well with David…we miss seeing him on the video blogs.Posted by Jennifer from Ca on 08/15 at 02:45 PM -
Hey there Lyz! I must admit, I’m one of those guilty peeps who just drinks out of the regular plastic gallon from the store…especially since i’m on the move so much! But you bring up a VERY important topic. Yes, some of these plastics DO leach harmful chemicals that, over long durations of exposure, may be linked to cancer. Here’s a rule of thumb for ya:
The BEST plastics for food/drinking are polyethyene based, which are excellent. Next are the polypropylene based which are OK. The worst plastics for drinking are polyvinyl and polycarbonates. An easy way to think of it is that the best plastics tend to be much harder, and the plastics get softer the more they leach…
There’s a ton of stores that carry polyethylene water bottles now, since there is a growing awareness around them!! Thanks so much Lyz!!! Hope this helps!Posted by Chris Powell from Arizona on 08/17 at 09:52 AM -
Hey there Jennifer!
You bring up another great point! Yes, the ‘rule of thumb’ in the industry is that you should drink half of your bodyweight in ounces. This is generally true and much more specific to the individual. Along those same lines, i’ve worked with doctors that simply recommend to gauge it off of the color of your urine! Sounds crazy, but it actually works pretty well…your goal is to keep it clear. When it starts to turn yellow, you need to drink more and more water to get it clear again. Somehow it turns into a fun little game
After years of contemplating solutions to keep our peeps hydrated, I stuck with the gallon. It will give some peeps more water than they need, but a gallon in a day is not close to enough to be dangerous. I like the fact that EVERYONE is drinking the gallon because we ALL know that we’re in it together. I’m drinking a gallon today, you’re drinking a gallon today, and the rest of our peeps are too. It is a common goal that we can all share in together
And a little extra water is only gonna help flush a little bit more!! Thanks so much Jennifer
Hope this helps!
