Carrot Sticks: The Sneaky-Delicious Craving Quencher
Carrot sticks might be one of the most sneaky-delicious foods in the world. I know, I know, I know… another “healthy” guy telling you how delicious some vegetable is, but there’s no way that veggie tastes nearly as good as a pack of Skittles. However, there are two things wrong with that perspective. First, I’m not a “healthy” guy. I’m someone who struggles with food cravings just like you—including an incurable sweet tooth—but I’ve taught myself how to manage those cravings. And second, I claimed carrots were “sneaky-delicious”... I didn’t claim they tasted better than candy. For the records, they don’t.
But here’s the thing about carrot sticks. While following the Crhis Powell Reshape the Nation program, you can eat as many carrot sticks as you want and still lose weight. Can’t do that with Skittles. And yet, Carrot sticks have a nice crunch to them. They have a nice sweetness to them. You can pop them in your mouth to get that “I’m bored and snaking and this is fulfilling” feeling without all the extra calories. Because carrot sticks certainly taste better and are more satisfying than a lot of other healthy foods, I’m giving them the label of “sneaky-delicious.”
So here’s my carrot stick trick. Every time you go to the grocery store, buy yourself one of those giant bags of already cut baby carrots. They’re a few bucks… not a major expense. Keep those carrot sticks nearby at all times (home, work, shopping, whatever). Whenever you have a craving to snack, I want you to eat a dozen baby carrot sticks. I’m not promising the craving will subside. I’m not promising you won’t still be hungry, either. But you’ll be able to better manage the craving. For most people that’s really what weight loss and healthy eating is… craving management. You’re not likely to ever stop enjoying pizza, or stop enjoy candy, or stop enjoying ice cream. Your goal—our goal—is to teach yourself to overcome your cravings of unhealthy foods. And if you can discover a healthy food that’s got a bit of a sneaky-delicious taste to it… well… all the better, right?

Aaron, you have me confused with your post on eating as many carrots as you want.
Most of us would think of them as a vegetable.
Vegetables are listed as “no limit” foods on the Reshape the Nation plan. However the Reshape the Nation food plan specifically lists carrots as carbs, so according to that, we should only eat them on high carb days, measured in our stax system.
So, now I am confused.
