“Blind Binging”
“Blind Binging” is a term that describes the common practice of people becoming “lost in their food.” In its most basic definition, this occurs when a person mentally zones out while eating, and continues to eat until the food is completely gone. Only then will the person snap out of the eating trance, only to begin to deal with the all-too-familiar guilt that comes with overeating. Very unfair. Not only do we have to deal with the physical and nutritional consequences of unhealthy eating, but we’re so “zoned out” that we don’t even get to enjoy the food itself!
OK, that was the bad news. Here’s the good news: Now that we understand that Blind Binging is a common occurrence, we can take proactive steps to avoid it! The easiest way to eliminate binging is to eliminate the opportunity to binge. In other words: Keep the junk foods outside the house! Sure, we’ll have occasional cravings and go foraging through our kitchens. But remember how the “blind binger” only snaps out of the trance once the food runs out? Well, when we can’t find the junk food we’re looking for, we snap ourselves out of the binge before we begin eating!
Remember… reward foods aren’t bad, and can be a great treat on our high-carb days. We just don’t want them easily accessible in our houses.

I agree with that. It’s going to be hard for me because I live in house with several other people and they eat whatever they want. However, one of my problems is that I like to order a pizza and “blind binge” while watching a movie. I’m thinking that it might be a good idea to not eat while being entertained. Maybe eating should be the event all in itself. Something else, I haven’t eaten at the table since last thanksgiving. In front of the tv is not a place to enjoy a meal! LOL

You are not alone Lori!!
This is a HUGE topic, and one that we are going to address a LOT in the future. it truly is the mental and emotional aspect of the journey that we need to understand, in order to take control of it!Posted by chris Powell from Arizona on 08/17 at 10:03 AM
